checking in

Whew......what a paint filled weekend.....and I'm still not done....

although I do have most of the basement painted.....I still have the stairwell to paint and the stairs another coat.....but today I'll be finishing the painting of the sliding glass door. I really want to put in a french door....but that can wait a little longer....just painting the wood sliding door has made a huge difference in the room....it no longer sticks out like a sore thumb.

I also repainted the coffee table.....the aqua just wasn't working for me....but the new grey color is.

I've been keeping track of what I've spent for this space...and so far it's very little considering I got new furniture like a huge t.v. cabinet (I'm talking a 9 foot by 6 foot) and a coffee table....other than that everything else has been recycled....gotta love recycling ;o)

The room has really changed from how it looked just a couple weeks ago.

I have a few more things to finish up....like some barn doors....then I'll show you a bit more.

here's where i'm at

I thought I'd show you my new (old) desk...remember this post.

I l.o.v.e. this table....and just thought it belonged inside....but I was never quite sure where to put it....until I decided to do a little makeover in our basement.

It know resides in my office....and has become the perfect desk for my new space....that's where I'm talkin' to you guys right now from.

I now have my office on the opposite side of where it used to be....and I like it much better this way.

I've been giving some of my old pieces of furniture some new life with paint....and painting some new pieces that hubby has built for me....and by the way....have I told you guys that my hubby is awesome....I show him a drawing....and a couple days later I have a new piece of custom made furniture....love him!

He actually finished building the huge tv cabinet yesterday...and also made me a little farm table to use as a coffee table (that I've already painted a soft aqua)....have I told you guys already that he's awesome...cuz he is ;o)

Oh....and see that super cool vintage general store paper holder on my desk.....my sweet friend Laurie gave that to me as a Christmas gift....I just love that thing....isn't Laurie awesome.

Subject change....

you know what I just noticed....I'm listening to 80's music (tears for fears, thompson twins, adam ant, billy idol, etc..) right now and find myself using the word awesome quite a bit in this post....lol!

new stuff

Just a quick post to let you know that I've added some new stuff to my etsy shop. I have more to list tomorrow too.

I'm going to try to post a little peek tomorrow at what I've been doing lately....but if I'm not able to, I'll post about it next week.

painted boxes

I went shopping the other day....and these are the pieces that spoke to me. I love painted wood....and to me these painted boxes are just what my basement needs. One of the big problems with my basement (which is a family room and my office) is that I never really decorated it. It was basically just an accumulation of furniture and stuff that just didn't fit anywhere else in my home... (does this sound familiar to anyone else?)...and that is were the problem lies...it was a hodgepodge of stuff....with no rhyme or reason to it. So to make it feel like the rest of my home...I'm clearing out the space....selling what doesn't work (even if it's something I love) and actually decorating this space. It'll take a while before it's all done...but I'll show bits and pieces as I go along.

Besides doing a little shopping....I've been painting....a lot! Here's a peek at the stairs leading to our basement....so far I've primed them...and already it looks a million times better than the carpet. It'll probably be a couple weeks before they're completely done because I have lots of coats of paint to apply....but I can't wait to see it finished.

a messy basement

Want to see what I've been up to....

besides waiting for my hubby to be finished preparing the stairs for painting....which should be done this weekend....which also means I'll be able to start painting them next week....

I've been making a mess in my basement....yep....

it's been about 2 years since I painted this space....and that's far too long if you ask me....so I'm painting and rearranging and looking for some new pieces to add to this blah space. I can't even tell you how bad I want to change the carpet....because until I can do that , I think this space will always look dingy and officey....hopefully later this year that can happen. But until then, I really need to try to make this space more me.

I see a shopping trip in my near future.
