Wishing For A Window Seat

I have always loved windows seats....but none of our homes ever had the right space to build one...until now.

We are in the midst of a dining room makeover...and we're adding a...you guessed it...window seat.

But...seems how the window seat was lookin' a bit lonely...we thought we'd add some built-in bookshelves to the mix. I can't wait for this project to be finished...I'm gonna fill those shelves with ironstone and baskets galore....I'll keep you updated on the progress.

And now for a red sofa update....

I have now finished the loose cushion covers {13 broken needles later}.....11 in all...

now onto the couch slipcover....yikes.

We've actually ordered more than a dozen different types of chickens...and more than a couple dozen in total....and can I just tell ya how excited I am...we love chickens...and have been wanting to add to our farm family. Our day old baby chicks should be here the second week in February....just waitin' for the post office to call and tell me to pick up "my girls".

If you'll be needin' eggs in about 5-7 months....just let me know....we think our girls lay the best eggs...cuz we spoil'em :o)

A Visit From Jack Frost

On Friday morning....we woke to this....

evidence that Jack Frost had visited us....

my little buddy was excited to see that Jack Frost had been busy the night before....touching everything in sight....so that we may wake....

to this winter wonderland.

Just beautiful.

Slowly Coming Along

So....I've been doing this sofa makeover for what seems like forever....but slowly....it's coming along.

There are times when I'm a sewing maniac....and then there are those times....I just want to through the sewing machine out the window {the latter of the two happens quite often}. As I've said before....I've just recently learned to sew...and when I say learned....I mean I've taught myself. It hasn't been too bad...although my zipper sewing skills need a little work...and I think I'm keeping the sewing machine needle company in business....as I've broken a ton of needles while doing this monster project....but it's coming along....slowly but surely.

So this is where I'm at now....I have 2 more seat cushions to make....and then I'm on to the gigantic....enormous....monsterous sofa itself. Did you notice the scary words I used to describe the sofa....well....that's because it scares me. Making the cushions has gone surprisingly well ....while making the actual sofa slipcover scares me...but I'm gonna keep on truckin' till I get it done.

So with this....here are 7 random things about me you may not know...


1. We purchased our farmhouse (halfway across the country) online....yep....that means we didn't see it in person until we pulled up in our U-Haul.


2. To go with No.1...we also didn't see the town that we'd be calling home until we drove into it....luckily the town...as well as the farmhouse are perfect.


3. I love making lists...that's right...I write lists daily.


4. I love making the bed....and love white sheets.


5. I collect vintage umbrellas.


6. My hubby calls me dude...cuz I act like one.


7. I'm a dork....you see....in the middle of writing this post, I heard the doorbell ring and went out to show the contractor what he needed to fix....and as I made my way back to the house, I realized the front door was locked....LOCKED. So...while I did have a jacket on...I was still in my jammies (in freezing weather mind you). So...dressed to the nines in my jammies....I walked down our dirt road to one of our neighbors who was thankfully home and called my hubby to see if he could come let me in....he came....the end.


Moral of No.7....make an extra house key and hide it outside.
